We're Back!

Our time in Denver is now officially over and we're back in Utah.

Danny's company gave him Thursday and Friday off to move so our plan was to pack and get ready to go on Thursday and then start driving Friday morning. Thursday morning we slept in, lounged around, watched Desperate Housewives and decided to check the weather. It's a good thing we did. The forecast showed snow all along our route for the entire day on Friday. We really didn't want to get stuck on the side of the road (especially since the night before we read Elder Cook's conference talk about him and his sons being stranded) so we made the last minute decision to leave that afternoon.

Obviously with the change of plans came a lot of frantic packing. Our apartment was pretty bare bones. We knew it was temporary so we made a concious effort to not accumulate things because everything we wanted to take back had to fit in Danny's car. However, I was still amazed at how much stuff we had. We got everything packed, loaded in the car and the place scrubbed down in about four hours.

The fact that we were able to get everything in our car is an absolute miracle. I had to take a couple of pictures becaue I was very impressed with Danny's loading ability.

(Yes, that is the mini fridge in the backseat! Danny wants to put it in his office so we stuffed it with miscellaneous items and loaded it in the car!)

We waited until 5:00 to leave so we could get our deposit from the apartment. Unfortunately when the guy got home he was in "too big of hurry" to give it to us so we gave him our address and he'll mail us a check. I'm not crossing my fingers.

The drive was smooth and uneventful until we got to Wyoming. Going through the mountains we encountered a blizzard. The wind was blowing the snow everywhere and you couldn't see where you were going. It was tense. We had decided beforehand that if we got too tired or if the roads got bad that we'd just get a hotel room for the night and finish in the morning. We started watching the signs for lodging. Turns out we were in the middle of nowhere and the nearest town was still 60 miles away. We were praying we'd make it.

Luckily when we came out of the mountains the snow eased up and the roads became decent. Since the conditions had improved we decided to just push on.

The rest of the drive went well. We listened to my iPod with Danny only complaining a couple of times about the volume of my singing. We ate treats - I think the rule of road trips is that you have to eat at least as many calories as the miles you drive. We talked. We laughed. We got a little slap happy around midnight. We got freaked out while stopped on the side of road in the middle of nowhere for Danny's "bathroom break." Overall, it was a fun trip.

We got to his parent's house at about 2:30 in the morning. I was dead tired. We carried a few things in and then collapsed into bed.

I'm glad that we're back to living in the same state as each other. No more nightmare airport experiences!
